Pokémon White Version Wedlocke Lite Part 14: The Final Badge!

Apologies for the late update. I've been busy and then went out of town over the weekend.

Time to take on Iris for the eighth and final Unova Badge, the Legend Badge! Basically my strategy is to do this completely with Scampi. On the first turn I'll set up with Hail to make Blizard 100% accurate.  Then I should be able to one-shot all of Iris' Pokémon. The two concerns I have are how much damage he may take during the turn that Hail is set up, including residual damage from Hail itself, and whether or not he can out-speed all of her Pokémon.

It may look like Scampi is a bit over-leveled for this Gym, but he actually had a few close calls while battling the junior trainers there. Dragon types generally have notoriously high attack, and Scampi's nature lowers his Defense, so I have to be very careful to avoid any missteps. One wrong turn could cost me.

I pulled off Hail easily against Iris' Fraxure, and she gave me a free turn by using Dragon Dance. Scampi was still able to out-speed Fraxure and take it out with Blizzard. Other than accumulating two turns of Hail damage, he came out unscathed.

Round 2 against Druddigon was also simple enough. Scampi was still fast enough to attack first, and one Blizzard did the job.

And finally, round 3 against Haxorus. This was where things could get ugly if things don't go my way. Scampi has accumulated 3 turns worth of damage from Hail, and Haxorus has godlike Attack. If Scampi doesn't out-speed Haxorus, it's quite possible for Haxorus to take him out in one hit.

But fortunately Scampi was faster, and thanks to Haxorus' pitiful defenses it only took one Blizzard to defeat her. I breathed a sigh of relief as I received the Legend Badge!

But this is no time to celebrate! The plot demands more attention. Prof. Juniper came up to me to give me some valuable insight into how to resurrect Zekrom! What did her extensive research find?

...She still has no idea how to do it. But don't worry, she's sure it will just appear to me when the time is right. Suuuure.

She did give me a Master Ball, though. That's nice. Looks like it's off to Victory Road for me.

Oh, I also got an alert about a big storm on Route 7. That's the Thundrus/Tornadus event if I remember correctly. I forget which one is on which version, but how convenient that they are unlocked right after receiving the Master Ball... But they aren't valid captures for me anyway since they're genderless. Oh well, continuing on to Route 10 on the way to Victory Road.

In Route 10 I ran into a lovely new companion. Meet "Sirloin" the Bouffalant!

Oh no... not again, Cheren! Sheesh do you never quit? I was a little concerned because my Pokémon weren't at full health going into the battle, but fortunately it wasn't that difficult.

Thankfully Cheren healed my Pokémon afterward this time. Good, that saves me a trip to the Pokémon Center. Onward!

Shortly afterward I made it to the Badge checkpoint area. Eight rooms of grandiose scenery later I finally came face-to-face with Victory Road! This is the last step to the Pokémon League!

As I entered Victory Road, I used Max Repel to avoid any encounters for now. As I battled the trainers in this area, I immediately noticed that they were a lot tougher than most of the trainers I've faced before. While most of my Pokémon comfortably out-leveled the Pokémon in the last Gym, the levels of these Pokémon matched and even exceeded some of mine.

I was going along pretty well, but at one point I got careless. I was training Honeydew and she got burned. I thought she could handle one more opponent because she had a type advantage. Unfortunately the opponent out-sped her and got her down to 8 HP. She took out the opponent with one Psychic, but the burn was enough to bring her health to zero. This was an especially sad loss because it could have been completely prevented, but I wasn't focused enough to take the necessary precautions.

So as I always do I dropped everything and rushed back to the Pokémon Center to give Honeydew her proper "burial". All three of my losses so far have been females, and I'm running out of good choices for female Pokémon. I also have no more Flying Pokémon at this time, so traveling is going to be frustrating from now on.

Below are the top four female Pokémon I'm considering adding to my team. Taking considerations for the Elite Four, I'm leaning towards using either Cherries the Minccino, or Gummi the Foongus. But let me know if you have any suggestions for me before I continue.

See you next time!
