And here we are, ready to face Gym Leader Brycen! Get ready, Hot Wings. You were born for this moment!
Round one against Vanillish, and it's a one-hit KO with Flame Burst. Nicely done, Hot Wings!
Round two against Beartic. Flame Burst isn't quite enough to take it out, and Brycen decides to heal on the next turn. One Fire Blast is enough to finish the job, though.
Round three against Cryogonal, and it's pretty much the same story as Beartic. Flame Burst followed by Fire Blast, and it's all over.
Well that's that. The Freeze Badge is mine. Amazing job, Hot Wings! I'm proud of you!
Of course I can't get a Badge without Cheren or Bianca sunning right up to me with something to say. This time they both appear at once and decide to tell me of their latest introspections on their lives. Guess I'm a good psychiatrist.
But wait, this time there's a twist. Cheren, Bianca, and Team Plasma all want to talk to me at once! The Shadow Triad requested my presence at Dragonspiral Tower to see N. I'm feeling pretty popular today.
Making my way to Dragonspiral Tower, I finally found a Deerling. How about I call you "Triscuit"?
It was then that it dawned on me that I kind of goofed. The tall grass just south of Dragonspiral Tower is still called "Dragonspiral Tower", so I wouldn't be able to capture anything inside the tower itself. I had kind of wanted to catch at least one Dragon type, so I was a little irritated.
It was then that I had a thought. I hadn't yet gotten my encounter for Mistralton Cave. In there I would have a 20% chance at finding an Axew. However, based on the level distribution of the Pokémon in the cave, if I used a Repel and placed a Pokémon at level 30 or 31 in front of my party, I would have a 50% chance of finding an Axew. This posed a dilemma for me though because I am following the Wedlocke rules for forming my party which essentially don't allow for substitutions. However, substitutions are allowed in order to use HMs, and I made a temporary substitution in order to obtain Larvesta, so I figured that as long as I don't actually battle with the substituted Pokémon it shouldn't be a big deal. I still wouldn't be guaranteed to find Axew anyway.
So I put Dragonfruit the Shelmet at the front of my party and set off for Mistralton Cave with some Max Repels. It took a while to run into anything, but when I finally did it was indeed an Axew! I couldn't think of a great food-based name for him off the top of my head, so I just decided to go with "Bacon", because somehow it just made sense.
And now back to the plot. As I again headed north to Dragonspiral Tower, I ran into Cedric Juniper and was followed by Bianca. Juniper gave me the Old Gateau, an item that cures all status problems. A little trivia in case you didn't know, "gateau" is French for "cake" or "pastry". That sounds tasty, but if it's an old gateau... I'm guessing it's going to be pretty stale. On another note, maybe the next time I catch a female Pokémon, I should name her "Gateau".
I made my way up the first few floors of the tower battling wild Pokémon, mostly Golett, which I wouldn't be able to capture anyway because they are genderless. Eventually I found Cheren and Brycen fending off some Team Plasma grunts.
I continued a little farther to find Giallo, one of the Seven Sages, making an announcement to some more grunts. Once he noticed me, he sent the four grunts to battle me one by one. It may sound like an unfair fight, but none of them were particularly challenging.
I finally reached the very top of Dragonspiral Tower to find that N had already befriended Reshiram. Anyone else would've had to battle Reshiram to carefully weaken it and then throw about 50 Ultra Balls, but I guess N can just... talk to it? Ok, that's pretty cool. Anyway, he tells me that now I need to go find Zekrom so we can battle with the legendary dragons to see whose will is stronger. Cool, I'm a chosen one, I guess.
After all that I met up with Cheren and Brycen again. In order to find Zekrom, I need to find the Dark Stone. It seems nobody knows for sure where it is, but Brycen tells me to head for Relic Castle to start. Before I do that, however, I'm going to do some training. The final Gym battle and the battles with the Elite Four, N, and Ghetsis that follow are going to be more challenging than anything yet, so I'm going to have to play it safe and be a little over-leveled. See you again when I'm done with that!
