Pokémon White Version Wedlocke Lite Part 8: ZAP!

Hey there, everybody! It's finally time for me to take on Elesa of the Nimbasa City Gym! My team should be plenty prepared, but you never know for sure with Elesa, so here it goes!

For round one I sent out Cornbread against Elesa's first Emolga. Cornbread's Quick Claw kicked in on the first turn, and as I expected little Emolga didn't stand a chance.

Round two against Zebstrika was considerably more annoying. Zebstrika struck first with Spark which paralyzed Gingersnap on the first turn. Gingersnap absorbed the hit pretty well but was immobilized. After a few more turns of taking hits and being unable to attack, I had to use two additional turns to heal her with Lemonade and Paralyz Heal, only to be paralyzed again by Spark during the following turn. But finally Gingersnap was able to overcome paralysis and pull off a Dig attack followed by Strength to take out Zebstrika at long last.

Thankfully round three was much less eventful. Cornbread took out Elesa's other Emolga while receiving negligible damage. Success!

At last, the Bolt Badge!

Next up, Route 5 and Driftveil City! But first we need to get the drawbridge lowered. It's always something, isn't it?

So a few steps onto Route 5 and who do we find? Why Cheren, of course! And he wants another rematch! No surprise there. His team hasn't changed much other than his Pidove evolving, but I'll always take the extra experience points.

Now that that's over, here comes Elesa! Time to lower the drawbridge, right?

...Not yet. First we must meet Alder, the Unova League Champion. Fancy meeting him around here, eh?

For some reason he asks Cheren and myself to team up against some preschoolers in a double battle. For educational purposes or something, I guess. I don't know, if these kids are only in preschool and they already have lv 26 Herdier, I'd say they're doing just fine so far.

At last, now we can lower the drawbridge! But... I want to face the rest of the trainers on Route 5 first, and I also want to find my encounter for this area.

I again employed a strategy of using Super Repel and looking for shaking grass patches. It didn't take too long to find a shaking patch which contained an Emolga! Nice. I think I'll name him "Ritz", after the crackers, not the song.

Now, finally, we can lower the drawbridge, with a pretty cool cutscene too.

Time to cross the bridge! But let's not forget that Driftveil Drawbridge is a new area where I can find another Pokémon. So after walking under a few shadow spots and obtaining some Wings (not to be confused with Hot Wings), I found my newest addition: a Ducklett. While trying to think of a name for him, I thought of feeding breadcrumbs to ducks near a pond. So I decided to go with "Panko", Japanese breadcrumbs for, well, a Japanese duckling.

Cheren and I arrived in Driftveil City to a not-so-warm welcome from Gym Leader Clay. It seems that lowering the Drawbridge allowed some Team Plasma members to escape... somehow... Well anyway, we have to find Team Plasma before we can challenge the Gym, so it's off to the Cold Storage to look for them!

Cold Storage... Let me tell you how excited I was to look for my encounter here. I've never used a Vanillite as a member of my team before, and the thought of having that possibility on this run made me happy. I even did some research to make sure I had decent odds of finding one. Vanillite has a 30% encounter rate for this area, not too high, but the highest of any individual obtainable Pokémon here. So yeah, I'd say my odds were decent. I took a few steps, and...

Ugh, just my luck. Well, I've never used a Timburr before either, and like I'm always saying, any encounter is better than none for a Nuzlocke. So I captured him and named him "T-Bone", because I'm guessing this guy's not much of a salad eater.

Before continuing through Cold Storage to search for Team Plasma, I stopped back in Driftveil to look around a little. The first thing I found was a Shell Bell, which I thought would be good for Gingersnap to hold for now.

Next, off to the market! This shady-looking guy gave me an Expert Belt for showing him one of my Pokémon at lv 30 or higher. I wasn't sure who I wanted to hold this item yet, so I decided to just keep it in my bag for now.

Also, Moomoo Milk! A couple dozen of these will definitely come in handy.

Ok, now back to the Cold Storage to find Team Plasma. It turns out they're hiding in this building. After a few simple but mildly irritating ice puzzles, Cheren and I had them cornered.

After taking on four of the Plasma Grunts, Peach reached lv 32 and evolved into an Unfezant! Now half of my team is fully evolved.

After the battles were done, Clay came in to take the Plasma members away. Looks like the Gym is now open to be challenged, but first I wanted to take care of one more thing.

After a small bit of training, Hot Wings reached lv 34 and learned Fire Blast. That was the last level-up move I wanted him to learn before evolving, so time to use the Fire Stone.

Now Hot Wings is a simply fabulous Simisear!

That's about it for now. I'm pretty sure I'm ready to take on the Driftveil Gym, so I'll do that in next part. Until next time!
